The High Performance Computing laboratory conducts research on parallel programming and code optimization using supercomputers and general purpose computation graphics processing units GPUs.
The main emphasis is on developing algorithms with better scalability thus enabling users to run tens or hundred times larger problems than before. Single core codes are also optimized for eg. cache and instruction pipeline behaviour thus enabling the full utilization of
computing resources. Application areas include bioinformatics, nuclear fusion plasma physics, fluid dynamics and computer graphics.
Courses on parallel programming with message passing MPI and on GPUs using CUDA and OpenCL are given on both master's and graduate level.
