The aim of the project "Broadcasting for the 21st Century" is to contribute to the standardization of next generation digital broadcasting system, following DVB-T. The universities in Finland will contribute to the analysis and simulation of proposed new standards, and provide research on the architecture of the system. Additionally, we will contribute to hardware platforms and demonstrators. At Åbo Akademi, we are looking at the system from a file downloading perspective, and we are specialized on error correcting coding for filecasting systems. At ÅA, 2 researcher and around 4 diploma workers per year will be involved in the project.
B21C is an European project, with 35 partners from Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, Spain, England, Hungary and Italy. In Finland, the other participants are Nokia, Digita, Elektrobit, Turun Yliopisto,Tampere University of Technology and Turku University of Applied Sciences. In all the budget of the project is 29,7 M€, in Finland 4 M€, ÅA:s part is about 0,65 M€, which is 100% funded by Tekes. Total person effort is 198 man years, in Finland 70 man years.
